Guitar rock bands usually have that tendency go bland after a few years, but I decided to keep listening to them after I took note of this. Base Ball Bear is a band scouted out by Toshiba-EMI, the same record label that produced Number Girl, one of biggest bands to impact Japan’s underground rock. On to how current state of the band is though. I have a fair share of praises and complaints.
Base Ball Bear has been around for about three years already and it’s still just a young band progressing for more publicity and fan-base even though they did get play for a movie their bassist starred in. I was really surprised that this wasn’t a major band like Asian Kung-Fu Generation or Beat Crusaders from the vocal style, but their releases so far kind of explain why. A lot of their releases I listened to were mostly just reproductions from their indie days. Uh, for example (since this will make it easier to understand what I’m trying to say), tracks like Satellite Town Nite appear in two albums. Similarly to Art-School, they really love to reuse songs for releases except Art School at least remakes all of their top tracks in each album to reflect their skill development. The single releases are still all new songs so my last words will really depend on the variety in their first major album scheduled to release on the 29th.
Yeah, it’s just a flat out guitar rock band with some more creativity than the usual ones. It seems like they’re still trying to figure out their style since Electric Summer actually features Shiori singing backups chorus for Yuusuke. That’s one of my favorites I’ve put up as a sample below; it’s got a bass guitar and a bass vocal to balance out the loud music. She sounds like Nino from Rouble Table. As for the main vocals, I know it’s not exactly the same, but it really reminds me that of Takuya from UVERworld and Keigo from FLOW. Okay, maybe not Takuya, but definitely Keigo when his singing starts to build on to the higher notes. Heheh, I like how Yuusuke always sports a necktie for that semi-formal look. Think I saw a band wearing suits in their promotion video once.
Now for the samples since I can code in the flash player thanks to the new hosting. I also cut down the full songs into one minute samplers ending with a fadeout effect. You know, just incase all those songs causes some legal issues. You can always contact me privately if you want to do a full sampling anyway.
