Japanese Band Introduction - Head Phones President

Vocals: Anza
Guitar: Hiro
Guitar: Mar
Bass: Narumi

The original plan was to start posting entries on Japanese bands that haven’t received a page in the music sites with extensive listings on different bands (like J-Music Ignited or Keikaku) until I accidentally ran into a particular Wikipedia entry, which shocked me quite a bit. Yes, the introduction caption is exactly what it says. Head Phone President’s vocalist Anza Oyama has a five-year long history as the lead cast as Usagi Tsukino in the Sailor Moon musicals. No, we’re not done. She also has a career as a pop singer and did the second ending for the series Glass no Kantai (Why this of all animes?) Heck, my brain just fried. The only Anza I knew was some out-of-control female vocalist behind all the screaming and cursing in a metal band. Picturing her as Sailor Moon character is the last thing I would have done. I’m lost with words here so do excuse me. I wouldn’t know what kind of impression this will have on people who are familiar with Anza’s role as Sailor Moon. Here’s the link to the entry if you wish to see for yourself.

Enough about that little trauma I had there though. To describe the band, it’s not the type of metal some of you people are thinking. Head Phones President labeled themselves as alternative metal, but you can probably get away with using the term nu-metal meaning they’re on the borderline between rock and metal. Uh, if you liked Bugy Craxone before they started going garage rock, this might amaze you with the similar female vocal screaming. I really don’t know anything outside of Japanese bands, but I’ve read people comparing them to KoЯn. Some of the songs, like during slow introductions, sound like something you would hear from a movie soundtrack. Their genre already explains why it may sound like that though. Anza’s voice is really shaky, but it’s powerful enough to help you overlook it for now. And ignore the band member listing, it doesn’t seem like they found a replacement drummer yet.

There are four samples to listen to this time. The fourth one is just a bonus so you can hear Anza singing pop. Check here for more samples. It seems like all the indie bands are getting a MySpace page. And before anyone asks about this. Yes, I like both sides of Anza.

HPP is pretty awesome. Can’t you like, totally picture Anza with the Sailor Moon get-up? :D

Oh great. I just checked to see how she looks like in a Sailor Moon get-up since you mentioned it, and find out that Anza’s specialty is break-dancing.

Someone please tell me what she can’t do or hasn’t done.
