Ghost Hunt - File #7

Another batch review like last time. The next arc will be talked about in the same manner so only one more Ghost Hunt entry left for me. Yeah, only four more episodes left. It all felt too short since the series flows case by case. Going back on the previous topic, I was trying to experiment with styles that fit for me, and Ghost Hunt conveniently works perfectly for testing a batch style review. Writing entries like this isn’t too bad if anyone couldn’t find a writing style. More episodes mean you will have more to synthesize into an entry and get at least over a thousand word count on average. Don’t ask me if people actually read those though since that’s what I want to know. Some people like them, while others call them a “wall o’ text” and run for the exit. So, this time on Ghost Hunt, we have Naru and Lin in the middle of eloping…

Not-so-quick comments about the arc’s predictability following the same format from the other post. This one is a little hard to put it into words. Yes, no one would have guessed that they would just pull out from the case like that. I wouldn’t give positive points for it though. Ghost Hunt has been introducing entirely new cases all the time so it’s not surprising that they would receive a case that’s unsolvable for even Naru, but that was just too anti-climatic to pass off and receive positive unpredictability points if you know what I mean. The good part is that it was tougher than usual to guess all the works behind the case. Even with all the clues they gave out, it’s probably not possible to guess that Urado is actually a vampire unless someone was really smart enough to study into that name. At most one would have guessed that Urado was basically the one who’s still in the house taking young people to kill with unseen reasonings for it.

Overall it was a decent arc. Way better than the earlier ones at least. Ghost Hunt even boosted my nerd ego because I knew most of the references they used this time. Go ahead skip here if you want. It’s just mindless nerd babble. First is when they started explaining about Oliver Winchester’s daughter-in-law who build a maze-like mansion just like in this arc because she thought all the people who were killed by Winchester rifles were coming back to haunt the Winchester family. I guess that was pretty interesting enough for me actually remember it from last school year in AP United States History. Then the rest about Urado and his vampire obsession actually comes from the useless knowledge I gained from playing a Korean slayer versus vampire multi-player game called Dark Eden at one point. I definitely didn’t know anything about Vlad, but I did recognize the name Tepes since that’s was the name for a big boss in the game. Same goes for Bathory except I actually remember reading that she bathed in blood from virgin females from the game descriptions on the boss. If they had mentioned Bathory, I would have guessed it was a vampire case right away.

This would have been the best story if it wasn’t for the lame ending. Good job, that was a nice way to waste a moving character development scene. No wait, they wasted two actually. Lin finally seems to be getting friendly with Mai. I thought that scene was lacking a little something, but still fine nevertheless. Come on, who the heck wouldn’t lose their defense against Mai’s tears. Nice back story on Lin to know though. It’s actually very normal for Chinese or Koreans to have grudge on Japanese people for some silly past history. Obviously I’m not one of those people. Eh, push that aside for now though. The more interesting one is actually the one between Mai and Masako. They look nice together whether they’re snuggling after a dangerous encounter with Urado, or fighting about who gets to claim Naru. Maybe it’s because they’re around the same age and have similar abilities. We definitely need more of those lively pillow throwing scenes in Ghost Hunt. Eh, anyone out there want to vote with me for some Mai x Masako and throw out Naru-chan? Wait, forget I asked.

Little shorter than last time, but whatever. I got the job done without procrastinating thanks to listening to Distort (Japanese punk rock) and Volcano (Japanese 80’s thrash metal.) Let’s hope I get more active with blogging once all the Spring 2007 shows hit (assuming that I don’t lose my mind other things once I finish playing Ever17.) Most of them look worthy enough to give some chance. Oh yeah, I almost forgot. I would totally hit on Madoka. Why can’t I have a sensei like that?

    I will say… this is the best case yet … and I still love Mai the most… but jealous Masako is completly cute… she rose a few points higher in this episode…. before she was just arrogant … now that we see her jealous and weak… who’d of thunk it… show some vulnerablity and your stock rises…heh… I

    Well, that’s the issue with blogging several episodes at once; limited screenshot choices since I like to keep the amount of screens and text balanced. Hope Madoka comes back on the next arc. Episode 22 came out today, and no sign of her so far. ;_;

    Sigh, I better stop dropping my guard just because a girl showed some vulnerability as Voodoomage would put it. That doesn’t necessarily mean I’m suddenly a Masako fan of course. I just look at her in a different light now. She’s actually just a normal girl on the inside. Hm, would it be wrong to call her a tsundere after this?

    She too quite I think to be a tsundere… and isn’t the tsundere usually that way toward the love intrest and not the rival…. unless of course Mai is her love intrest…heh yuri FTW… j/k…wait, no i’m not… heh

    There are cool and silent tsundere’s like Tsugumi from Ever17 after all so I was thinking…maybe/perhaps Masako can qualify as a tsundere under that. I wasn’t quite sure if tsundere had involve a love interest and all. If it is scratch that and never mind. -_-;;

    Eh, all these terms are very confusing and vague. It’s like how no one really knows at under what age a girl is supposed to be considered a loli. One can say the loli applies to girl up to elementary school while other can pass off any underage girl as a loli (Like how they called Bou-san a lolicon for hugging Mai that one time.) Then there’s people who just come to conclusions by the appearance. There’s no consensus decision on that.

    Oh yeah, I need to start adding mouse-over captions to images. ^_^
