Bah, wouldn’t be too surprised to see negative comments flooding once the fansubs are out later on. Very understandable as this episode was just way too slow. Preferable format would have been to jump in sometime in the middle like the OVA and probably backtrack to just briefly show how they were recruited in the third. Knowing that Eika originally piloted a fighter was helpful, but no need to waste much of the episode to focus on the local area Otoha grew up in. Kendo doesn’t even suit her honestly. In other words, anyone who didn’t see its potential from the OVA would have simply tossed this out. Sky Girls is my main interest for the season, yet the show is already starting off wrong in so many ways. Plus the lack of Eika to why it failed.

Disappointment number three is the opening. Sure, it’s an I’ve Sound song, but that doesn’t mean it’s an instant win. I can’t stand any high-pitched moe singing such as the ones in KOTOKO and Utatsuki Kaori split album Short Circuit. Also, not very good because it sounds like they were trying to get MELL to imitate KOTOKO. “Excuse me wtf r u doin?” And apparently I forgot what kind of world we live in. I brought up the fact that they could have saved the trouble of making a new song (not to mention a pretty solid song by Kosaka Riyu) and a new animation sequence by the pasting it straight from what they used on OVA, but was reminded that the world revolves around capitalist pigs. Of course they would make a completely new opening for the anime. They’ll have the excuse to produce a new CD to promote and sell. Ending is also a new one, but I didn’t notice since it’s another one done by Karen’s seiyuu like in the OVA. No complaints about that.

Finally, point number four. JC Staff is running two shows this season. That can be a possible explanation as to why episode one just didn’t work out; the budget needs to be balanced between Sky Girls and Zero no Tsukaima. I’m pretty sure the majority would be happier with the latter turning out to be getting the bigger share, but that value would be false for anyone standing within my line of sight. Urge…to…kill…rising. Same goes for you people calling the girls loli’s. The correct term for girls who are thirteen-and-above is lolicious according to the sacred texts of Stripey nii-sama, and all three of the girls are sixteen and above. Get it straight, they are NOT loli’s. Next week’s episode better have plenty of caption-able shots for mouse-overs and enough Eika to fill up my fifteen-inch monitor when the screenshots are reduced to a size of width 269. Yeah, something about characters voiced by Shizuka Itou always gets to me.
