Japanese Band Introduction - Hawaiian6

Drums: 畑野行広 (Hatano)
Vocal/Guitar: 安野勇太 (Yuta)
Bass: 小鷹 徹 (Toru)

Hawaiian6 is under a genre that was completely unknown to me. Apparently there is a sub-genre called melodic hardcore punk, which I seem to like already after hearing this band. First time I listened to them on player was on one of those annoying, sticky, hot summer afternoons so I couldn’t come up more than the fact that Yuta sounded like Beat Crusader’s vocalist. Don’t know if it’s just me, but I can’t get into music unless I’m in the right mood. Forcing myself to listen the first time wasn’t the smartest thing. Actually explained all that in one of my comments from a previous post so here’s a direct copy-and-paste of it before moving on.

It all depends on the mood for me. I go through these phases for certain type of music, so to say. Like there are times when I prefer soft, slower music when I normally don’t. When I want to hear something rough, I would go for some straight-forward indie rock.

If we’re talking about the present in which the weather is really hot over here for the summer, I would tend to listen to music that’s easier on the ears such as metal or anime music. Yeah, it’s weird, but I see rock heavier than metal.

On the good day I listened to these guys a second time, Hawaiian6 impressed me especially with the introduction to An Apple of Dischord. The later tracks in the album I was listening to seemed to lean more on straight forward indie style punk, but they definitely got on my top list with the whole melodic theme. It has that distinctive bass sound I like to pick up with my ears, and Yuta is just amazing for multi-tasking between his emotional singing and guitar that can also get very technical when it needs to even though they’re supposed to rely more on melody as their genres suggests. Too bad I wouldn’t give them a full five-star rating. The broken English kind of ruins the music until you get used to it. Special thanks to Blood Stain Child’s Aki for driving my curiosity into checking out this band after I saw his favorite band list on the official site.

And this is just a site update note. I recently went through all the older music posts and changed the samples around. Two posts were detonated since those bands aren’t on my list anymore. Most of the samples run shorter now at below ten percent of the original length, but that shouldn’t interfere with anything. Some of them also have a different song uploaded so check those if you’re interested, and lastly I got new images for Going Under Ground and The Back Horn since they had low resolution images that used to along with my old layout. I need a better image for Hawaiian6 if anyone has any (yet I highly doubt) by the way. Had to expand a smaller image to put on this post and I refuse to have images that don’t match my standard 543 width. And yes, that’s a double neck guitar there.

Haha, you have good taste as usual. I actually listen to a lot of punk rock, though its usually of the American type. The vocalist to this band really does sound like the Beat Crusader’s. xD

As far as listening to music in certain moods, I probably used to be like that too, but it doesn’t seem to matter as much to me recently. That might also be because my mood doesn’t change as much as it used to. ;)
