Night Wizard - Jewel of Incompetence
How exactly is this considered getting interesting? First, we need to know what is generally good and bad when it comes to plot twist. Good plot twist from my understanding is one that presents a surprise, but makes perfectly logical sense. It is usually possible for one to reflect back on the story and seek out clues leading to this surprise-ending. In contrast, a poorly planned plot twist completely shifts the story with little or no acceptable logic. This is usually subject to criticism saying the story is ridiculous or all over the place. To be fair though, usage of the second type isn’t always wrong. There are times when it’s fine to sacrifice credibility for a stronger surprise element to the story. The actual time a plot twist is bad is if and only if it is used for the wrong purpose. In this case, Night Wizard brought in a surprise (revealing Elis to be Syaimaral) for the sole purpose of attempting to lengthen the series. They were desperate and had to rely on a plot twist to help boost the story; a sign of weakness. Then what’s the right way to use a plot twist? The right way is to properly plan and weave it in the story. Not to use it as a method to attach expansions to keep it running. Therefore, I don’t buy the new path it is heading in. The show is not getting interesting, but rather struggling to keep up with itself.
The rest of this post is highlights on the ridiculous scenes similar to what I did before. Enjoy.
Do you hear that, Mr. Anderson? That is the sound of inevitability. Every anime must have a bath scene. And in that bath scene, the male character must always have an accidental peek, and get beat up for it. If we suddenly have a mass of reports of people with clairvoyance abilities, blame it on Night Wizard. Anyone can predict this show.
See? Even the producers know how ridiculous their own show is. They start making jokes about characters who are coincidentally available at a crucial scene. Oh, and leave the fansub groups alone. At least you know what they meant to put there.
Somehow, this made me think about the whole lighting fart on fire talk. My mouth was just left hanging when she wiped her tears, and actually used it to call up a huge water magic.
We won’t have to hear her talk to an imaginary Oji-sama any more, right?
No. Just no, Night Wizard. What the heck is wrong with this show? Of all places, now you want to go where? Saturn?! Is that an excuse to have an not-so-epic battle with cool Saturn in the background? Oh wait, how did those characters even breathe in space? Is there also a convenient magic for that situation?
You mean to tell me the castle was a battleship this whole time, and yet the main characters had to board a private space shuttle to go to space the first time?
Sigh, I give up. *facepalm*
[...] male character and totally ridiculous happenings and dialogue. Some may say that Night Wizard is clichéd but I dare to disagree! Because clearly the show is something truly original; a clever mix of [...]
