Clannad - Etude pour les petites supercordes
The image above is from Musashi Quality’s translation of Clannad 4koma Manga Theater. I was reading this Clannad doujinshi a few days ago when a thought hit me: “Doh! Why did I miss signs of this from the anime?” Well, the answer is simple. I did not notice what I normally would have because I was lost in Clannad’s current pace, which is not so good to say.
Although my blood did excitedly boil from Tomoyo’s interpretation of Mahou Shoujo Kyou, the nature of the last two episodes have been similar to that of a filler episode. Kotomi’s story as of now has been merely about making friends and having fun. It does not yet have a clear stance on where it wants to go. Apparently, I was also lost in this relaxed mode, and could not keep a clear mind to watch the episodes with intent to generate a discussion topic.
Then to go back on topic, just what hit me? From that specific part from the doujinshi, I realized Clannad was all along pulling the very same move Canvas2 was always praised for – the girls actually interact with each other. There you go Clannad, another reason to get praised. Just as the translation above says: “I was moved by the bonds between the characters, since they tend to get diluted in normal galge.” Even though I might have said the recent episodes were lacking in purpose, this discovery now makes me see them in a new light. Well, I exaggerated; meant slightly better.
So, what does this mean? For starters, this is another indicator showing Clannad’s story is more interwoven as compared to say, our usual comparison victim, Kanon. It would be good to see more visual novel based anime series following this method, and turn it into a trend.
Personally, I have grown to dislike the harem style anime series as well. I rather prefer whichever show that feels more real, which would mean to include Myself; Yourself from this season. Incidentally, no one said there is only one way to improve these kind of anime’s. It just happens so that the example laid by Clannad and Canvas2 is easy and surefire way.
Hmm, this must also explain why I have been finding Kimikiss Pure Rouge addicting despite the below average quality.
Tisk tisk….you are in for a surprise.
Also, ew Canvas2. I’ve been stalled half way through on that for months.
You’re not exactly wrong, though :V
Clannad has a central theme tying all the stories together, even if it isn’t apparent in some of the stories. That’s what makes it special.
That, and the usual Jun Maeda throttling you if you refuse to cry.
Totali, that’s why I said, as of now. :P
I’ll see tomorrow…
