Spring 2008 Watch List

Line-up of shows I will give a try when they air. To me, this is another convenient season though. Less worries about watching anime while back at the residential hall. The series for the upcoming season are a nightmare for guys. I swear more than half the shows this season are shoujo (the reverse harem kind) or boys love. Then there was this one show called Crystal Blaze. The trailer for it is indescribable. The studio thinks they’re creating a Hollywood film. Or as NovaJinx says, it must be Afro Samurai’s successor. In other words, don’t touch it.

I did pick out a few titles from that mess, but none of them look interesting. Well, I suppose there’s Candy☆Boy to look forward to. Also, not much opening and endings to look out for either. One ending by Base Ball Bear, and another ending by Go!Go!7188. That’s it.

Allison & Lillia
I’ll be honest. I want to watch it just to drool over Allison. Other than that, I can’t say this looks very original. It looks like about biplanes, and Last Exile has already done that. Maybe I will like this better though. Maybe like an alternative to Last Exile. Sort of like how I prefer Kimi ga Aruji de Shitsuji ga Ore de over Hayate no Gotoku. (6)

To-Love-Ru
Dumbest manga to be adapted into an anime. It’s notoriety will only disappear when Sekirei debuts for the following season. So why is this on my list? I blame it on Kurogane. Damn you Kurogane. I hate you. Why did you have to let me hear Kawasumi Ayako voicing an ojou-sama? If Kawasumi Ayako saves this show, I will continue watching it by all means. I mean, I sat through Night Wizard. How bad can this be? (2)

kure-nai
Only quality looking show. Nothing to say besides that. Hope it isn’t boring like Ghost Hound. (6)

Kanokon
Same deal with To-Love-Ru, except I care less about this one. Ayako-sama! (2)

Nabari no Ou
Apparently about ninjas. Doesn’t look bad at all, but that will still depend. I might have to drop it since a certain voice actor is in the cast. Sorry, I like having my ears fully functioning. I don’t want ear cancer from hearing high-pitched Kugimiya Rie. (4)

Himitsu ~Top Secret~ The Revelation
No reason. Looks seinen-ish. I like seinen. (5)

Toshokan Sensou
Okay, you win Ruki. I will watch this too only because the other shows are weird. I really don’t give a damn about military themed ones though. One question though. Why does this image keep making me think Neon Genesis Evangelion? (5)

Candy☆Boy
We all know this from the ONA. Seven episodes will be aired online only. (7)

For those wondering, the numbers indicate my estimated interest level. They’re all of ten. Shows how bad I want to see them. Excuse me while I just wait for Kara no Kyoukai DVDs to come out. I don’t need to watch anime any more if I see those.

Actually, for Nabari no Ou, Kugimiya Rie is voicing… The male character. Yes, the one in the front (I think). Or so I read.

Apart from her tsundere roles, she also does some good male roles. And no, no ear cancer from the male roles; I watched a bit of FMA before and her voicing of Al was fine.

As for me, I’m going to watch a bit of Shoujo… But if it gets unbearable, it’s dropped.

Yea, she is playing a dude.

I dunno what else to say about the watch list. Needs more SHOUJO I guess.

So she’ll mostly be low-pitched? I can definitely bare that then. Well, I’m fine with her normal voice if it’s like Masako in Ghost Hunt. Problem occurs when it turns into Shana, Louise, Nagi, etc. It’s that whiny voice…

And good luck with the shoujo. I don’t know anyone who would enjoy them besides Impz. I think only one them were actually both-gender friendly. Rest of them have one girl and a bunch of bishies.

Well, some shoujo series contain good main heroines. For example, the currently (?) airing Hatenkou Yuugi, despite being a female-targeted show, has the main character Rahzel in a witty and bold persona. The animation is lacking, but the character is rare. Compared to so many moe shows these days, a strong female lead is like a breath of fresh air.

Well, I’ll just hope for the best.
