Japanese Band Introduction - Shadow

Vocal: Shimamoto Tokiko
Guitar: Sumimoto Yuichi
Guitar: Okada Shinichiro
Bass: Kubo Yoshio
Drums: Enomoto Mitsuhiro

Shadow is a melodic death metal band from Osaka, Japan—home to all the finest Eastern metal bands. Although they split-up after releasing one self-titled album in 1993, Shadow left a strong impression. It is quite possibly the only Japanese band to play an earlier rendition of melodic death metal. Contrary to renovating (modern melodic death metal) bands like Blood Stain Child, Shadow played a clear imitation of early In Flames. Shadow is simply an ideal band for those who want to hear a Japanese band, which retains the meaning of death in death metal. It follows a couple steps behind Intestine Baalism.

Sound-wise, they are perfect (one of the most technical from Japan). They go from intense to melodic as the solos shift in. The music is nothing new, but they meet demands from fans of the earlier melodic death metal sound. If there is any aspect to note about Shadow, it will be the vocals. Shadow is lead by a female vocalist (Shimamoto Tokiko), and the results are explosive. Her powerful growls hit notes far lower than that of most male vocalists. Well, that’s enough talk. Listen, listen, listen…
